LOCATION
Limassol
is the largest coastal resort in Cyprus. It is a bustling city, second
only to the capital, Nicosia. Yiayia’s House is located in the centre
of the medieval district. This area is not what the locals call the
‘tourist district'; that may be found on the outskirts of the new town.
If
you wish to experience true urban Cyprus, the way the locals live it,
this is as close as it gets. Here you will find an abundance of
cultural and gastronomic venues, including shops, kafeneia (coffee
houses), cinemas, theatres, bars, tavernas and restaurants. The old
harbour (now a fishing shelter), the new promenade, the Ottoman
quarter, the hamam baths (which still function), the medieval castle
(where Richard the Lionheart wed Berengaria in 1191) and the new marina
are all a short walk away.
The property is also ideal as a base
for exploring other parts of the island. Limassol is served by several
new motorways which offer easy access to airports, other cities and the
Troodos mountain range. Close by you will find another medieval castle
(Kolossi), and the ancient Graeco-Roman cities of Curium and Amathus.
There are three 18 hole golf courses within half an hour’s drive and no
city is closer to the island’s vine lands. Please visit our links
pages for ideas on activities and for information on regular local
events such as the WRC Rally and the annual Limassol Wine Festival.
